Effects of postharvest gibberellic acid application on return bloom of 'Patterson' apricot.

Branches were sprayed with GA at 10, 100 and 1000 mg/litre, after harvest, on 29 June, 20 July, 10 Aug. or 31 Aug. Flower number and fruit set the following season were reduced most effectively with 10 and 100 mg/litre applied on 29 June, without adverse effects. GA at 1000 mg/litre produced vegetative shoots the following season. Whole trees were sprayed with GA at 10, 50 and 100 mg/litre on 7 July or 8 Aug. GA at 50 and 100 mg/litre delayed flowering the following year. Fruit size was increased by spraying on 7 July at 100 mg/litre (16.0 g, compared with 14.4 g in the control). Yield, TSS and fruit firmness were not affected by the time of spraying or GA concentration.
