The effect of preharvest, postharvest, and storage conditions on some fruit disorders.

The effects of various factors, including preharvest Ethrel [ethephon] application, rapid precooling prior to storage, storage temperature, and humidity, ethylene, O2 and CO2 levels in storage, on the development of storage disorders in fruit crops (particularly apples, peaches and pears) are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the development and prevention of low temperature breakdown, core flush, flesh browning and scald.
