Tolerance of Penicillium expansum of systemic fungicides: studies of synergism and post-harvest control strategies in pears cv. Winter Nellis.

A synergistic effect on amount of decay caused was observed when benzimidazole-sensitive and benzimidazole-tolerant strains of P. expansum were inoculated together to Winter Nellis pears treated with carbendazim or imazalil after harvesting, the effect being max. when the strains were inoculated in equal amounts. Sensitive isolates alone resulted in more fruit damage than tolerant isolates alone. Imazalil was more effective for postharvest disease control than carbendazim + imazalil or carbendazim alone.
