Fungi associated to pineapple fruit rots marketed in Chile.

Fungi isolated from pineapples with fruit rot on potato dextrose agar were identified as Ceratocystis paradoxa, Cladosporium herbarum, Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi] var. subglutinans, Fusarium solani and Penicillium glabrum. C. paradoxa and G. f. var. subglutinans were the most important fungi causing damage of fruit in supermarkets in Santiago, Chile. A suspension of 4-5 x 104 conidia/ml of C. paradoxa and G. f. var. subglutinans applied to healthy pineapple fruits with and without wounds caused fruit rot symptoms. This paper was presented at the Symposium on tropical fruit in international trade held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, on Jun. 4-9, 1989.
