Factors influencing development of postharvest incidence of Rhizopus soft rot of papaya.

Some of the factors influencing Rhizopus soft rot of pawpaws caused by R. stolonifer during shipment and storage were identified as: nature and type of wounds, rainfall, mancozeb field sprays, postharvest hot-water treatments and postharvest storage conditions. It is suggested that mancozeb field sprays reduce Rhizopus soft rot incidence by reducing field initiated fruit diseases whose lesions serve as courts of infection for R. stolonifer. This paper was presented at the Symposium on tropical fruit in international trade held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, on Jun. 4-9, 1989.
