Coefficients of friction of Irish potatoes.

The peak static, peak and dynamic coefficients of friction (COFs) of potatoes on nine types of materials were determined. Static COF ranged from 0.34 to 0.73. Dynamic COF ranged from 0.34 to 0.66. Polyethylene sheet had the lowest values and galvanized sheet metal with 13 mm (0.5 in.) corrugations had the highest values. Potato cultivar was not significant.
