Evaluation of different SO2 analysis methods on litchi fruit

Three different methods for analysing sulphur dioxide (SO2) in litchis were compared in terms of their sulphite analysis results. In terms of the set up and procedures the Monier Williams method applied in the European importing countries is very similar to the method applied in the exporting country Madagascar. The South African method with the shortest distillation time showed the highest uncertainty in terms of the colour change. The results of all three methods are considered to be comparable despite the discrepancies between the different methods.
