Aflatoxin B1contamination in groundnut samples collected from different geographical regions of India-a multicentre study.

Under a multicentre study conducted in India, 2062 samples of groundnut were collected from rural and urban areas of 11 states and analysed for AFB1 using the AOAC method. Twenty one per cent of groundnut samples exceeded the permissible Indian regulatory limit of 30mg/kg. No statistically significant difference in percentage of samples contaminated was observed between pooled rural (22.9%) and urban (19.9%) data. The minimum and maximum per cent contamination occurred in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, respectively.
