Phytotoxicity of pathgenic fungi and their mycotoxins to cereal seeding viabilit.

The ability of AFB1 and G1, diacetoxy scirpenol (DAS), hojic acid and teniazonic acid to reduce cereal seedling viability was studied. The LD50s for barley, wheat and sorghum  treated with aflatoxins were 0.83, 1.74 and 2.75 mg/L, respectively, and for kojic acid 63, 105 and 251 mg/L, respectively ranged between 79-550 mg/L. The germination inhibition was more pronounced in barley followed by wheat and was negligible in sorghum for all tested mycotoxins. This inhibition was attributed to reduction in seedling amylase activity, as amylase was reduced in the same trend: barlay > wheat > sorghum.
