Effect of tebuconazole (folicur (R)) and prochloraz (Sportak (R)) treatments on Fusarium head scab development, yield and deoxynivalenol (DON) content in grains of wheat following artificial inoculation with Fusarium culmorum.

The effectiveness of the fungicides Folicur(R) (a.i. tebuconazole) and Sportak (R) (a.i. prochloraz) applied either separately or in combination was tested in field experiments agains Fusarium head scab in wheat artificially inoculated with Fusarium jculmorum. Experiments with wheat cv. Greif showed that all Folicur and Sportak treatments reduced idsease severity compared to the infected disease severity cmpared to the infected control. The early postinfectional applications (2 days) of the fungicides proved to be most severity by 56% and Sprotak by 41%. DON content of non-fungicidetreated grain was 27 mg/kg. DON contents were reduced by up to 71% by application of the combined funicides. In field experiments conducted with two winter wheat cultivars, Kontrast and Pegassos, both fungicides were applice exclusively 2 days after inoculation. The combined application suppressed disease duvelopment most effectively with disease incidence of the cultivars reduced by 52 and 64%, respectively. DON contents in untreated grain of cvs. Kontrast and Pegassos were 11.77 and 8.11 mg/kg, respectively. Combined application of the fungicides reduced the Don contents by 61 and 62%, respectively.
