ผลการสำรวจความเป็นไปได้ของการดูแลรักษาปลาเป็ด เพื่อการบริโภคของมนุษย์บนเรือประมงอวนลาก
Approximately eight hundred thousand tons to Thai marine catch per year is by-catch.Most of this by-catch is of extremely low quality and is used mainly for fish meal production for animal consumption.More than half of the production is exported at a very low unit value compared to other exported products.Meanwhile, there are more than ten million low income Thai needing access to protein foods at minimum cost.This study was to determine factors and problems effecting the quality of the trawlers by-catch.The population in the study involved four hundred ninety-nine trawlercaptains in Samut Prakarn province of Thailand.Fifty survey samples included in the study were selected by using a stratefied random sampling method.An interview schedule was employed in collecting data from the sample.Major findings were as follows : There were space, time and labour available for the improvement of the by-catch quality on board.Better price of the by-catch would be the main incentive to improve quality so as to be suitable for humand consumption.The most promising lot to be improved was the last day catch.
